Michael wrote the popular Sunday “Smart Money” finance column for Hearst Corporation’s San Antonio Express News and Houston Chronicle from 2014 to 2024. He is the author of The Financial Rules with Michael Taylor Substack and the author of The Financial Rules for New College Graduates. He served as a board member and finance chair for The United World College of the American West. He previously sold emerging market and mortgage bonds for Goldman Sachs, founded a distressed debt investment firm, and worked as a fixed income consultant.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard and was a Fulbright Scholar to Mexico.

He lives in San Antonio with his wife and 2 children.
